Grove History


Jan, 1947 - Grove Manufacturing Company, a predecessor of Grove Worldwide, is established by Dwight L. Grove, John L. Grove and Wayne A. Nicarry. The company starts its activity in two car garages rented in Pennsylvania. Their first products are tires for agricultural wagon wheels.
1952 - After some refinement, Grove's first yard cranes are introduced into the commercial marketplace.
1959 - Grove introduces the first truck crane and the first crane mounted on a vehicle undercarriage.
1965 - Deliver the GROVE crane number 1000.
1968 - Produce the first crane for rough terrain: GROVE RT62S. Deliver GROVE crane number 3000.
1978 - Grove purchases National Crane Corporation from Waverly, Nebraska, a top producer of truck-mounted telescopic and articulated cranes.
1979 - Grove delivers crane number 20.000. The expansion continues by acquiring Manlift company, adding height work platforms to its product range.
1983 - Grove is awarded with very important contract with the U.S. army.
1984 - Grove acquires Coles Cranes Limited, the largest producer of truck-mounted cranes in Europe.
1990 - A new corporate identity, Grove Worldwide, is announced.
1993 - Grove is reorganized on three segments: Grove Crane, Grove Manlift and National Crane.
1994 - Grove Worldwide becomes the first international producer of truck-mounted cranes and height working platforms obtaining certification according to ISO 9001.
1995
- Grove acquires Krupp adding 14 all-terrain cranes to its current product range.
1997 - Grove Worldwide celebrates its 50th anniversary. In December, Grove delivers crane number 50,000.
2001 - Present the largest two-axle truck-mounted crane in the world for rough terrain, RT9000E.
2002 - Grove is acquired by Manitowoc Company, benefiting from the protection of a giant company.
2004 - Expanding the range of its all-terrain cranes, Grove has added three new models the GMK3050-1 that has a 55-ton capacity, GMK4090-1 and the GMK5130-1 from the middle range of the series with 90- and 143-ton lift capacities.
2005 - Manitowoc Crane Group opens a new facility in Niella Tanaro, Italy for the productions of Grove mobile cranes for rough terrain.
2006 - Grove has launched a new all-terrain crane, the GMK4080-1, four-axle and capabilities to lift 6.6 t at a radius of 20 m.
Oct, 2008 - Manitowoc launched the latest addition to its range of five-axle Grove all-terrain cranes, the GMK5110-1.
2009 - Manitowoc is launching a Grove mobile crane, the GCK3045 suited for work in congested urban areas.
2010 - At Bauma 2010 Manitowoc introduced two new 6 axle all-terrain cranes GMK6300L si GMK6400.
- Manitowoc is presenting a new truck mounted crane TMC540, new concept, based on the ultimate technology.
